Understanding Full Site Editing

What is the site editor?

Why is it called the “Site Editor” instead of the “Template Editor”? This video explores the bigger picture of what the site editor is becoming.

While template and template part editing remains core functionality, the site editor is evolving into the central hub for all website management. You’re already seeing this with features like post-per-page settings appearing contextually when editing blog templates.

The site editor now includes navigation management, pattern creation, and even full page editing capabilities. When you edit a page through the site editor, you can switch seamlessly between editing content and editing the template.

This is just the beginning. The Gutenberg project is rebuilding all of WordPress admin from scratch, and the site editor will eventually become the one place to manage every aspect of your website – not just themes.
